LLOYD TAKES BLACKPOOL GLORY - AGAIN!

COLIN LLOYD gained a second successive victory in Blackpool, with an 8-5 defeat of Ronnie Baxter giving him victory in the 2005 Bob Anderson Classic.

Lloyd took home the Stan James World Matchplay title on his last visit to the north-west, and warmed up for his defence of the Sky Bet World Grand Prix in style this time around.

The world number one threw a total of 17 maximum 180's in his 7-2 semi-final win over Wayne Mardle and the final against Baxter, which he won 8-5 and averaged almost 103.

"It has been a good weekend for me," said Lloyd. "It's a major event, all the big names were here and I am pleased with how I played.
"The World Grand Prix will be different with the double-start, but this has filled me with a bit of confidence because I know I'm playing well."
In-form Baxter averaged 102 in the final, but was unable to take the killer blow against Lloyd after edging out Adrian Lewis in a gruelling semi-final, which went down to the final leg.
Lewis himself ended the hopes of mentor Phil Taylor at the quarter-final stage, while Roland Scholten and Mark Dudbridge lifted their confidence ahead of the World Grand Prix by reaching the last eight.
Bolton's Steve Coote also made the quarter-finals, losing to Lloyd after an impressive win over Chris Mason.

BIG GUNS UNSCATHED
The big guns from the Professional Darts Corporation progressed unscathed to the second day of The Bob Anderson Classic in Blackpool.
Saturday's first two rounds were split between the Thornton and Fleetwood Clubs, with only Denis Ovens the absent John Part not progressing to the last 32 from the top ten seeds.
World number one Colin Lloyd will take on Steve Maish in their third round contest on Sunday after progressing at Thornton, while a tasty clash sees Andy Jenkins meet Chris Mason.
Alan Warriner dropped just two legs on his way through, while Roland Scholten overcame Colin Monk and Rod Harrington to set up a clash with Sky Bet World Grand Prix qualifier James Wade.
Another World Grand Prix qualifier, Gary Welding, was in good form at the Fleetwood Club, winning his games against Chris Allen and Erik Clarys 6-1 to earn a date with Peter Manley on Sunday.
Reigning Bob Anderson Classic champion Terry Jenkins is also in the hunt, as is another former champion, Kevin Painter, and World Champion Phil Taylor.
